Brothers and Sisters,

I attended website training to increase OUR members’ engagement with social media and the Union.

Brothers Terry Rennette from (LL 2922 in North Bay), Rick Moriarty (LL 103, Cambridge), Bobby Manevaski (LL 2113 in Markham), and I attended a website workshop held by Frank Saptel of the Canadian office at IAM District Lodge 78 on Friday, April 27, 2018.

The group learned how to use WordPress and explored new ways of adding content to Local Lodge web pages to keep YOU the members current with local lodge information. If you wish to contribute content please forward any information to:

Retirees Club Outing

Local 1863 Retirees Club organized an outing for its members. This was a visit to Westlake Maple Products, Bayfield, Ontario, and a tour of the sugar bush and maple syrup evaporator owned and operated by Ron Westlake, who is a retired IAM&AW LL 1863 union brother.
Union brothers, Marris Bos, Brian Pollock, Randy Kerr, Ken Young, Kelso Fitzsimmons, Paul Moss, Larry Wilson and John White taking picture were shown how the maple syrup operation worked. From the tapping of sap from the maple trees and collecting it in large vats, to the evaporation process and end product being bottled and marketed. Ron Westlake has operated this enterprise for many years, and the business goes back several generations in the Westlake family. Some of the end products are: pure maple syrup, pure maple sugar, and gift baskets are made to order.
 
Attached are two photos showing the visitors in the sugar bush, and at the sugar shack with the latest equipment that Ron has invested in to produce the end products.
 
Other tours and events are being planned by the Local 1863 Retirees Club for this year.

Obituary – Brother Don R. Watson

Union Brother Donald R. Watson passed away March 02, 2018 at the age of 69 years.

Don was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich, Ontario, Canada in the Fabrication Sheet Metal Department on Jan. 29, 1973, at that time becoming a member of IAM&AW LL 1863 (now LL 1975). Donald retired in June 2009.

Donald’s funeral was held at the Needham Funeral Service, 520 Dundas St., London, Ontario, Canada on March 07, 2018.

Obituary – David Clifford Marks

Union Brother David Clifford Marks passed away February 14, 2018, in his 78th year.

Dave was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich, Ontario, Canada, as a Machinist Fabricator on April 08, 1974, at that time becoming a member of IAM&AW LL 1863 (now LL 1975). Dave retired on August 01, 2001.

Dave’s funeral is on February 19, 2018.  Interment at Brussels Cemetery in the spring.

Union Brother Benno Rudolph Joseph Dubler passed away Dec. 25, 2917
Benno was born Nov. 07, 1923. Benno was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich Ontario,
Canada as a Machinist  March 28, 1960.
Benno retired Nov. 1988. He was a member of IAM&AW  LL 1863 (now LL 1975)

Obituary – Brother George Sillib

Union Brother George Elwin Sillib passed away November 30, 2017 in his 90th year.

George was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich, Ontario, Canada, in the Maintenance Department, December 2, 1968, at that time becoming a member of IAM&AW LL 1863 (now LL 1975).

A Celebration of Life will take place on December 28,  2017, at McCallum & Palla Funeral Home. Interment Colborne Cemetery.

Obituary – Brother Don Edwin Cartwright

Union Brother Don Edwin Cartwright passed away November 15, 2017 at the age of 84.

Don was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich, Ontario, Canada, in the Finished Products Department as a fitter, May 1, 1962, at that time becoming a member of IAM&AW  LL 1863 (now LL 1975). Don retired June 1, 1998.

Don’s Funeral is November 20, 2017, and interment is at Blyth Union Cemetery.

Obituary – Brother Leroy Ryan

Union Brother Leroy J. Ryan passed away October 26, 2017 in his 78th year.

Leroy was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich, Ontario, Canada, as a machinist, October 30, 1974, at that time becoming a member of  IAM&AW LL 1863 (Now LL 1975). Leroy retired December 1, 2004.

Leroy’s funeral is October 30, 2017, and interment is at Maitland Cemetery.

Obituary – Brother Norman Helmuth

Norman was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich, ON, Canada, as a machinist, March 27, 1972, at that time becoming a member of IAM&AW LL 1863 (now LL 1975).

Norman’s funeral is October 20, 2117, and interment is at Maitland Cemetery, Goderich.
